Consideration of Dynamical Effects on Parameterization of Clooud radiative Properties

چکیده
Effective radius (re) (defined as the ratio of the third to the second moment of a droplet size distribution) is one of the key variables that are used for calculation of the radiative properties of liquid water clouds (Hansen and Travis 1974). The inclusion and parameterization of re in climate models has proven to be critical for assessing global climate change (Slingo 1990, Dandin et al. 1997). It has been demonstrated empirically (Pontikis and Hicks 1992, Bower and Choularton 1992, Bower et al. 1994, Martin et al. 1994, Liu and Hallett 1997, Reid et al. 1998, Liu and Daum 2000a), as well theoretically (Liu and Hallett 1997, Liu and Daum 2000b), that the re can be expressed as a “1/3” power law of the ratio of the cloud liquid water content to the droplet concentration,

Radiative heat transfer: many-body effects
Heat transfer by electromagnetic radiation is one of the common methods of energy transfer between objects. Using the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, we have studied the effect of particle arrangement in the transmission of radiative heat in many-body systems. In order to show the effect of the structure morphology on the collective properties, the radiative heat transfer is studied and the re...

During the past two decades, there have been tremendous developments in near-field imaging and local probing techniques. Examples are the Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Near-field Scanning Optical Microscope (NSOM), Photon Scanning Tunneling Microscope (PSTM), and Scanning Thermal Microscope (SThM).Results showed that the average reflectance for a dopant con...
متن کاملThe Effects of Shape Parameterization on the Efficiency of Evolutionary Design Optimization for Viscous Transonic Airfoils
The effect of airfoil shape parameterization on optimum design and its influence on the convergence of the evolutionary optimization process is presented. Three popular airfoil parametric methods including PARSEC, Sobieczky and B-Spline (Bezier curve) are studied and their efficiency and results are compared with those of a new method. The new method takes into consideration the characteristics...
متن کاملOptimal Trajectory Generation for a Robotic Worm via Parameterization by B-Spline Curves
In this paper we intend to generate some set of optimal trajectories according to the number of control points has been applied for parameterizing those using B-spline curves. The trajectories are used to generate an optimal locomotion gait in a crawling worm-like robot. Due to gait design considerations it is desired to minimize the required torques in a cycle of gait. Similar to caterpillars,...
متن کاملDispersion of Cloud Droplet Size Distributions, Cloud Parameterizations and Indirect Aerosol Effects
Most studies of the effect of aerosols on cloud radiative properties have considered only changes in the cloud droplet concentration, neglecting changes in the spectral shape of the cloud droplet size distribution. However, it has been shown that that the spectral dispersion of the cloud droplet size distribution (defined as the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean radius of the droplet ...
